Wireless Bridge Networking for CCTV: Planning and Troubleshooting
Plan point-to-point wireless CCTV links around line of sight, bandwidth, alignment, interference and reliability.
When a wireless bridge makes sense
A bridge can connect buildings, gates or remote areas where trenching or cable installation is impractical.
Start with traffic
Add the expected camera bitrates and leave practical capacity for overhead and future changes. Do not size the radio link from camera resolution alone.
Line of sight and Fresnel clearance
A visual line of sight is not always enough. Obstructions around the radio path can reduce link quality and throughput.
Alignment and interference
Correct antenna alignment, suitable channel planning and a clean RF environment are important for stable CCTV traffic.
Security and management
Use strong credentials, appropriate encryption and management access controls. Document radio IPs and configuration.
Troubleshooting
Check signal quality, negotiated capacity, packet loss, latency and traffic load. A link can remain 'connected' while being unsuitable for sustained video traffic.
